About XML Sitemap Generator
An XML sitemap is a file that lists the URLs on your website so search engines can crawl and index them more intelligently. It is not required for small sites (crawlers discover pages via links), but it becomes critical for large sites (thousands of URLs), sites with orphan pages, and sites with rich media (image, video, news sitemaps). The XML sitemap protocol was introduced by Google in 2005 and is now supported by all major search engines including Bing, Yandex, and Baidu. A valid sitemap follows the XML Sitemap Protocol 0.9: URLs are wrapped in <urlset> with <url>, <loc>, <lastmod>, <changefreq>, and <priority> elements. This generator builds standards-compliant sitemaps, including sitemap indexes for very large sites (50,000 URLs or 50MB per file).
How It Works
- Enter the base URL of your site.
- Add URLs manually (with optional lastmod, changefreq, priority) or paste a list of URLs in bulk.
- Choose whether to generate a single sitemap or a sitemap index (for large sites).
- Preview the XML and download as sitemap.xml.
- Upload to your site root and submit in Google Search Console.

💡 Advanced Tips & Pro Insights
- ▸A single sitemap can contain up to 50,000 URLs and be up to 50MB uncompressed. For larger sites, use a sitemap index.
- ▸A sitemap index is a sitemap that lists other sitemaps — use it to split large sites into chunks.
- ▸lastmod should be the actual date the page was last modified (W3C datetime format, e.g. 2026-10-10T15:30:00+00:00). Only include it if accurate.
- ▸changefreq is a HINT, not a directive. Google largely ignores it. Safe values: always, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, never.
- ▸priority ranges from 0.0 to 1.0. It is relative to other pages on the same site, not across sites. Google largely ignores it.
- ▸Only include canonical URLs. Do not include URLs that redirect, return 404, or are blocked by robots.txt.
- ▸Sitemaps should be referenced in robots.txt (Sitemap: https://example.com/sitemap.xml) and submitted in Google Search Console.
- ▸For very large sites, auto-generate the sitemap from your CMS (WordPress Yoast, Shopify, etc.) rather than maintaining it by hand.
